GoMacro was started by Ameila Kirchoff, who spent her childhood on a small farm in England gardening with her mother. Growing up, they didn’t have a lot of money for food, so they grew their own fruits and vegetables. Her father was also a beekeeper, so they had their own honey, as well. Whatever her family could make or grow, they sold for income. Soon, they opened a bakery as her mother began selling her famous cheesecake and other treats.

Started in the spring of 2000, 120 acres of land was purchased in Wisconsin. They converted the old barn on the property, restored the orchard and planted a vegetable garden. In 2003, Amelia was diagnosed with breast cancer and was told about the healing powers of a macrobiotic diet. Ameila decided to do the same and began growing her personal diet on their land in Wisconsin, named Posilippo, Greek for "pause from pain". As Amelia began craving the sweet foods she used to eat, she began experimenting with natural sweeteners, grains and fruits to create macrobiotic desserts. After her desserts were introduced to a health food store in Chicago, their barn was converted into a commercial kitchen and the began selling GoMacro bars.

GoMacro is a family-owned company that puts their heart and soul into a natural, whole-food based lifestyle. Their mission is to manufacture wholesome, healthy snacks because they believe that food and good quality impact health, happiness and well-being for all. The goal of GoMacro is for people to stop thinking of food as a short-term fix and to start thinking about long-term health and a lifestyle of eating pleasure with products that have positive effects on the world and people around.
